Hello,

I have a 2003 sport E500 that is currently giving me problems. The roof will open fine but make noise trying to close. It's like I hear the motor clicking trying to close. If I lift up a little and pull it forward it close. I was wondering if anybody have had this issue before. I'm thinking something may be stuck or the motor moving forward is going bad. I hope it's something I can possibly fix because I heard the dealer ship can cost some serious cash. Also is there a manual way to close it.

Thanks...

Had it happen to mine. Dealer fixed it in one day. $1000.00 and its fine now. You may can find an indie shop that can do the repair for less but they will need specialty tools and experience in the repair of a Mercedes Pano roof.

My 2005 E500 did this at about 75k miles. I searched this site and YouTube to learn how to clean rails. Here's a link:

I ordered special MB sunroof lube from an online MB Dealer that sells small amounts for around $10 (ECS Tuning) and it now works and sounds fine. It took about 30 minutes total. I'd try this first before spending $1,000.
