E500 vs. Clk500

E500 vs. Clk500 I am in the market for a new car and am torn apart between these two. I have a 325ci now and love the way coupes look, but I would like four doors. Any way is there anyway I can get the same bodykit that's on the E55 on my E500. If not then I will go with CLK 500. Thanks for any help.

I think the new clk is a little girly. I would still drive it, but would choose the E500 over it. The CLK 55 is pretty awesome though.

E500
I voted for the E500,its interior is much more better and luxurious,it also offer more practicality as a 4-door.The CLK500 is also a great classy car but I prefer the E500.You can get the AMG bodykit for both cars if you want!Goodluck in your purchase!

We were shopping for an E or a CLK but we ended up with a CLK because the car suited the roads in HK Better for a first time driver in this country. But if i were in the states i would chose the E instead due to its better lookin interior, and airmatic suspension.

I think the CLK would be a lot of fun to drive in the hills but I would pick the E for all around comfort.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I love the way both look but the E500 NEEDS the AMG kit. Any one know how much it costs and can it be done at the factory?

Hello:

Definitely, I will choose E500 compared to CLK500. I am not bias and it's not because mine is E500. Here is the comparison:

You are spending $60k to get the car:
1. CLK500:
- looks sporty
- interior totally sucks and pretty much the same with C-Class.
- space for rear passenger is very limited.

2. E500:
- less sporty, but if you purchased E500 w/ appearance/sport package or if you plan to change it to AMG body kit, this car is awesome. trust me on this. i was first thinking that E-Class is for old people, but after purchased it with apperance package + airmatic suspension (the car can lower), I know that this is what I want.
- Interior: so far it is the best among other cars (no joke). it is clean and sophisticated.
- In fact: E500 is combination between sport and luxury.

If you really don't need the backseat get the CLK but if you are going to be putting adults in the backseat on an even semi-regular basis then get the E500.

Watching overweight adults try to climb into the back of a coupe is truly a sad thing, to say nothing about them trying to get out again.

Thanks Ipolo for your very informative reply. I agree with everything you said but it NEEDS the AMG kit. Have to know how much it costs!

LOL! CRB you are exactly right. With my 325ci I hate to put people in the backseat. It pains me everytime to think of what there scuffing up. Not to mention I am 6' 2" and is very uncomfortable to have adults in back of you in that thing. But I love the way coupes look. Is there more room in the back of CLK than 325ci anybody.

The E is a much better value for your buck. As mentioned, CLK interior leaves much to be desired. Its not like the CLK is by any means a performance car anyway.. lets face it. Your 3 series will run circles around it (well, not really). You will not notice the difference in performance as much as notice the difference in interior quality and exterior styling. The CLK55 is not supercharged and is a waste..

I have to agree with Brav

In terms of what you get with the money, E 500 gives you bigger bang for the buck.

Though I am now eyeing a CLK500, I am doing it because I already have an E500. IMHO, CLK is a fun spare car where as the E can be for (self) pampering as well as everyday use

Good luck ....

imo, if you want sportiness with a fast care, and dont care much for space, i would wait a while, and get a SLK55 amg. supposedly the interior is real nice, and it will have real nice features like the neck warmer for when the top is down. will handle, and be faster than the CLK too.

The only reason I would pick the CLK500 over the E500 is if it was for a weekend car. Otherwise, the E500 is a much better choice for a daily driver, utility, and convenience.

In other words, get the E500.

hollaback -- I'd go with a black e500,,, you won't be disappointed...i've driven the clk500 and was very very impressed with it, but the e is just a better car overall with better features, its also classier and has and a much nicer interior, especially the '04's with command...Also, I would go with the panoramic roof, makes the interior seem a lot more open, good luck with your decision,,,holla back

I also looked at both the E500 and CLK500. I ended up with an E500 for the following three reasons:
1) E500 has new 7 speed automatic transmission (7G)
2) E500 Navigation screen is larger and thus easier to see
3) Airmatic suspension

But, you will not go wrong with either car.

Good luck.

I agree. However, my own preference would be for the E.

I looked at both of these cars and drove them both.

I picked the E for a few reasons:

Back seat
4 door
more features.

BUT if you want a convertible CLK is the way to go.

Depends on your needs. These cars are very similar

Sucks to have your dilemma of choosing cars. LOL

Both are very nice cars.

Here is the thing.

E500 looks like a 60k car
CLK500 doesnt. I would buy a CLK 500 if it was priced around 50k maybe.

You will be paying 60k on a CLK500 and you can still be mistaken by other cars. Ie C coupe, Volvo.

E500 looks like distinguishable MB

NOW! If you are to modify your car, the CLK500 has LOTS of potential. E Class does as well.

You really can't go wrong. The AMG package looks nice on the CLK500 though.

The E500 can still hold its own without the AMG package though. With it there is no comparison. E Class hands down!
