My indie shop tells me MB switches between 5w30 and 5w40 all the time for no apparent reason. Either of those will be fine.

I run Mobil1 0W-40 European Car Formula. The dealers, at least here in Colorado, used to use 0W-40 until very recently, when the standard (according to them and my independent mechanic) was changed to 5W-40, as 0W-40 is too viscous/light at start up and in some higher performance engines causes lifter bleed down (https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ml#post5468629), as answered by the AMG private lounge. Don't think that's a concern for the M272 in your car or my M273, but I always think running the higher weight oil is probably a better idea (the 40 I am referring to) as I drive my car hard. While heavier oil can reduce top end horsepower, marginally, I think it's safer.

Then again, any engine on the approved engine oil list is suitable. I just tend to stick with Mobil1 since I am of the opinion they make the best synthetic around, and 0W-40 is readily available at Walmart for $25 in 5qt jugs I use to change my oil every 5-7k. Just to add, I use the OEM filter from the dealership which has Mercedes packaging, but I'm pretty sure it's just a Mobil 1™ Extended Performance Oil Filter since it's exactly the same price as the oil filter they offer at Advanced Auto Parts.

Same here, Mobil 1 0w40, but I also got some Castrol 0w40 and will use that next time unless I pick up more Mobil 1 at Walmart. They're having a $12 rebate again on a 5 quart jug, $15 if you get a Mobil 1 oil filter with it.
