Straight pipe?

I love the sound of my 2004 E320 (gas) exhaust, I love it. I know, there's not a lot of noise there to love but moving from queens to Boston ( the land of tunnels and toll booths ) I have a bit more accelerating rather than weird idle noise now. I've searched YouTube and googled this for a while now and it's been my man child dream to just saw off the rear cat and go straight pipe. I also know this is just for entertainment on my own part, and will of course **** off my wife. Any one heard of anyone doing this to a 320? Would it trigger the ever terrifying (sometimes, maybe check the gas cap) check engine light? Do I care if you think I'm trying to compensate my under bits? I've only been able to answer the last question, any help would be greatly appreciated I'm off to stare down my car hack saw in hand yet another night in a row.

Haven't heard of that, As in a muffler delete?
I was thinking more to just cut the rear/ secondary catalytic converter and replacing it with a straight pipe before it reaches the mufflers.. Sorry I'm not too well versed in this area, thank you for your response

It's more like a piece of pipe with a small motor that will open and close a flap with a remote control. Closed = for the wife. Open = spirited solo driving. I'm not sure about its longevity as I've seen comments about wires or the motor operating the flap possibly going bad. Then again I've heard people have nothing but praise for it.

Here's an example with an e350, which would be very similar with your e320

Okay! This is a must have! Where can I get one? Do you need one for each side or one is good enough?

A name that comes up a lot is quick time performance (QTP). Our E's are true dual exhausts so you'll need 1 for each side. A lot of shops will sometimes use custom made e-cutouts that are a lot cheaper but quality might be a concern, not sure.

Quick link to those QTP cutouts.

Yeah I think the W211 exhaust system is dual just not true dual because of the stock h-pipe crossover... but there's a semantic debate since most people just distinguish between single in/single out, single in/dual out, and dual in/dual out.
