Visit workshop and noise from engine compartment..

I have a 2003 E320 for only a few months now. I've noticed that when I come to a stop then let off the brake, I hear what sounds like small motor running in the engine compartment. I also hear the same thing 'sometimes' when I unlock the car. This morning when unlocking, that noise lasted a lot longer. Then when I got into the car the "Visit Workshop" - battery light came on. So can anyone tell me what that noise could be and if it could be related to the "Visit Workshop" message. Also, is there a "workshop" that I actually can visit to see what's going on or is that some standard error message that MB throws out?

thanks..

Forgot to add, I did replace the main battery a few weeks ago. That stopped all the consumer electronics messages.

I will test the smaller battery and see what it's voltage reads.

The noise sounds very mechanical and like it's part of the braking system.

If the SBC pump is making noises, is that normal?

Yes the SBC pump or airmatic pump makes a "sound" when you start the car, a noise is subjective and would be based on your knowledge of your car (unusual sound). Without details (metallic grind noise, whine, etc.) impossible to diagnosis in a forum
