Everyone bow our heads: A Ford Taurus is in my future

Well, it finally happened. Company policy has finally changed and all reps will be mandated to take a company car. A Ford Taurus I've always been able to avoid this and always preferred driving my car and taking a car allowance / mileage. Anyone else here drive a company car? My wife is trying to point out all the positives, like the Benz will always be clean, won't beat the crap out of it on the lousy NYC roads, etc. But I know i'm going to be miserable in this thing, while my MB is home in the garage. I'm sure I won't have to keep my fingers crossed when I turn on the radio in the Taurus, though My brother did make a good point. Use the Taurus as the "famiily car", sell the Benz and get the 911 i've always wanted!! Don't think the wife will go for that.

If they must give you a company car, they should get you a Continental or something.

A Taurus isn't that bad. It's a great family car.

Yes, you will probably hang your head and hide while driving the Taurus! I have rented many Tauruses over the last few years and they are very consistant - consistantly mediocre. They aren't any fun to drive but they get you there and you will appreciate your Benz much more.

My wife hates those things! I've taken to renting Camry's if I can get one.

At least the Taurus don't catch on fire as easily as the Crown Vics/Marquis/Town Cars.

Is there any way you can convince them to give you a choice between a Taurus and an equivalent-price foreign car, for example an Accord V-6? Alternatively, can you upgrade at your own expense to a Lincoln LS?

No, it's a huge company (400,000 + employees worldwide), so there is no way to be "different". I've just been lucky that i've been able to stay under the radar up until now.

You guys are bumming me out; I was hoping to hear from others who are in the same boat, and that it's OK. I guess not. It's gonna suck, isn't it??

If it's any consolation , the new Taurus revealed at the Detroit show last month looks a bit like an an Audi A6 , since it was done under the influence of Ford design head, J Mays , who came from Audi . ( Why do you think the interior of the new F150 truck has round brushed aluminum air vents ).
Ford has also said they will not sell the new Taurus to rental car companies to enhance the car's resale and image vs the Camry/Accord. Stock analysts on Wall Street didn't like that idea, but hey, they all drive E500s !

i think that new Mercedes E Class based "coupe" coming out in a year or two looks like a Taurus. Just imagine you are in that thing.

Back in my Ford A-plan days I got a new one every year and good thing because the trim was usually either rolling around in the floor or in the glovebox awaiting reattachment.

Always remember: Quality is Job#1

Add a "cli" to the begining of name of your new company car like my buddy did with his.

To tell you the truth the Taurus is one of the better commuter cars you can get. Its comfortable. Get a black one with tinted windows and have them give a the 6-disc cd changer in the hand rest. You will like it. But you won't admit it.

I would get rid of my E and just drive that and save for a CL55. In a year or so you can afford to upgrade and you'll be all smiles.

In the mean time, get the limo tint so no one sees you.

Company car? you should be happy! The new taurus is a decent ride and are the best built domestic family sedan I think. They have to make them pretty durable since the car is mainly sold to fleet applications. I think they are well rounded vehicles, but no E500.

I've grown to love having a company car. You can park any which way you want - the gas is free... insurance is free... and it's worry free.

Something goes wrong - just call the fleet management and - no problem -it's fixed.

If it makes you feel any better - the Explorer I had as a company ride was utterly reliable for 80K miles... (I kept it longer than the usual 50K because I liked it so much as an urban assualt vehicle)

Harsh!

Seriously though - since you'll have a car to trash while going to the mall, parking downtown and going to Home Depot - get a REALLY fun car.

I would say that the 911 would be a pretty good choice.
