I'm switching every so often. Which one do you like better?

I like the CL grill. If you're going for the coupe look, that's it. The plain grill without the hood ornament isn't a look I'm used to. Maybe I'd like it more after time. Good comment by previous poster that its so easy to swap, you can almost change grills with your moods. I might do that between the CL look and the stock look.

Got it from Performance Products, $ 220 plus shipping.
Fits and feels like the original grill.

I prefer the look of the CL grill. I would install one on my car but my wife likes the stand-up star and standard grill. Since I like to sleep in the same bed with her, I respect her wishes.

The answer is obvious, but for the perfect look, paint black the upper and lower pins.

I know I'm ...

an old fart, and I already feel the heat from the flames, but I have no idea what you guys see in that grille conversion. Probably just me, but jeez that thing looks cheap. It looked cheap back when we did it in the 80's too. Didn't understand then either. Is there really any doubt that you're driving a Benz? "Man, I keep forgetting what kind of car this is....maybe if I look at the hood and the grille.....oh Yeah! It's a chrys...I mean a Benz!
Done now. I'll step out of the way. Probably should have kept my fingers shut.

-Don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade with this info: (figured I’d share it with the rest of my fellow members )

I Kept it stock. If you look carefully you’ll notice that there are 2 types of “stars” that Performance Prod. sells:

The Bigger star: that reaches all the way from the top to the bottom of the grill.
&
The smaller star: which only and barely reach the top and bottom a look that just doesn’t do it for me (IMHO)

The star that Performance Prod. frequently offers (and they don’t bother telling you) are the “smaller-star-look” unlike the star that you’ll see in ALL the other Benz models that has them as stock
(ie: SL, ,CL, SLK, CLK…etc…) know what I mean?

I just think the Performance Prod. star is a wee-bit too small for me. (IMHO)

And here’s another observation I made. Notice the number of horizontal grills. IMHO the less the number of horizontal grills the better. (once again that’s just my opinion)

When it comes to the resulting look of the car, I’m very meticulous when it comes to details (as you can see), that’s the reason why I did not get the grill Performance Prod. offered,
bcz when I purchased my car on 2001 the grill with the bigger star was not offered then. So I kept it as is.

Hope that input helps for the rest who's contimplating on purchasing such grills

CL grill.. the real one

I prefer the real CL grill look of the big star. Like one pictured in my avatar. I believe Performance Prod makes one and Lorinser makes one. I think it looks better with a grill that can be painted body color and just a chrome star in the middle vs. the chrome grill with the small star. Although the CL grill is more than double the price. PP CL grill is like 600 something while the Lorinser I have is a bit more. Since my car is black, and the CL grill painted black, just looks better with just a floating CL star. But you need to keep in mind that both CL grills I mentioned are plastic or fiberglass.. not metal.

I would leave it stock. But I am not really into modding.

first, I'd say keep your oem grill, IMO its classier than either of the two kinds of star grills...
btw, does anyone know what kind of body kit is in the picture of the e-class you have in your webshots gallery (the one with the big star in the grill and the amg wheels??) thank you

The original grill is for a classic boring look , the big star grill plus the flat emblem is for a more sporty look.
Different looks for different tastes thats all.

it's hard to choose because the car is so nice so that any grill will fit..

It’s from "Expression Body Kit”.
Never heard of this company before. (some of the mebers in here might have heard of this company before, but not I.)
It’s offered in the Performance Prod. catalog. I don’t order much from them.
IMO most of their products is sold a bit too high.
I get the catalog to obtain ideas and at time they do offer reasonable deals.
Other than that, I’d spend my money on improving performance (HP, handling, etc….) over esthetics.

Here's their number. 800-243-1220
