Upgrading Sound System 2005 E500 w/HK

Hey, I am brand new to the forums here. Vehicle: 2005 E500 with the HK audio system. What I want to do is upgrade my subwoofer in my vehicle without upgrading the stock head unit and navigation. I have decent car audio knowledge, but this HK system is a little past my years. Do I need to run a sub amp off of the stock head unit or Daisy chain it off of the stock speaker amp? If anyone is knowledgeable on this kind of upgrade, let's talk. I'd prefer to put a sealed box in the trunk oppose to doing a free air setup in the existing speaker cut out in the rear deck. And if I do this upgrade the way I imagine it, do I need to remove the OEM subwoofer in the rear deck. Hope for some input. First day on the forums, hoping for some good direction.

I think this might be covered in some old threads so you could search those for the exact answer. But I believe the system uses a fiber optic system so it's not an easy or cheap system to work on.

You'd take the existing sub out to vent the trunk space to the cabin, and use the factory subwoofer speaker leads to supply signal to the new amp/sub. Just make sure your new amp accepts high level inputs and has auto sensing for power.
