I got a 2003 E500 this week, it's a great car all around but there's no AUX input anywhere, and the COMAND does support AUX.
Can this cable use an adapter to recognize an Android device?
Here's a pic of my COMAND and glovebox

I'm not sure on the '03, as I have an '08 but I think it's similar. I have an 'aux' (3.5mm plug) and a 30-pin ipod cable in the glovebox that plugs in on the back of the COMAND unit. However, it's not going to give you control over your android - I'm not even sure if it will allow for using your android device as a media playback device (like an mp3 player).
Short of replacing your COMAND with an aftermarket head unit, you're better off going with something like a m0bridge or Dension unit. They are designed to work natively with ipod/iphones but at least you can get Bluetooth connectivity to your android device.
Those units run upwards of $500 so for that kind of money, I decided to replace the COMAND with a modern, aftermarket navigation unit. I ordered an Opti-1 interface so I can connect a Kenwood DNN992 and leave my factory amp/speakers/Logic 7 system intact.

I have a '05 and the aux is located in the front and I use a Bluetooth adapter for streaming and phone. My '03 CLK was pre wired for Aux and I had to remove the felt plug that was covering the adapter (had to remove glove box). Here is link that may help
