Hello! I am new to the forum but not new to the E-320 CDI. I have an '05 and an '06.
I just got the '05 today, but it does not seem to have the Satellite and the Nav unit does not work. So I started seeing these people on the internet that upgraded the COMAND unit and I am very interested in doing that.
Not too familiar with how to do that so I was wondering if y'all had some suggestions.

Update won't fix your navigation. Most likely it is dirty laser that has to be cleaned. For update in Europe you download software here, burn it to a CD, insert it in DVD/CD player and follow the instructions. As far as I know you can order North America CD online.
I am looking to replace the COMAND unit with something that fits in there. I have seen a couple of posts, but those looked extremely complicated, and I just want something that can give me Satellite radio and a nav unit.

Do I have any options?
The least complicated option is to fix what you already have.

Hard to give you suggestions without knowing exactly what you are looking to replace. Do you have Bose, Harmon Kardon or Logic 7?
If you have any of those, it's going to make a difference as to what your options are (or at least how expensive/complicated they will be). I have Logic 7 in my '08 W211 and figured my upgrade options were nil, considering I did not want to hack the factory system. The android unit suggested above does not work with Logic 7 systems. Whatever COMAND unit you have, it will not be cheap to repair or replace it. Even if you go that route, you're left with a pretty antiquated navigation system and no Bluetooth streaming, android or peripheral integration. Upgrading to NTG2.5 COMAND is time consuming and cost-prohibitive.
Then I found out about the Opti-1 interface, which opened up a world of possibilities. I'm gearing up to replace my system with a Kenwood DNN992 and catch up to the modern world of mobile technology.
