2003 E320/W211 - Steering Wheel rattle/grinding noise

Hoping to get some answers on my steering wheel rattle/grinding noise issue on my 2003 E320/W211. Searched the site, but did not find any satisfying answer.
I will describe my issue as best as possible:
Since about a week ago, it seems that after engaging the turn signal lever, it disengages after making the turn in a bit more of a "harsher" fashion then it used when popping back into the original position.
What I am trying to say is that the lever rather pops back into place, before it seemed like it was a bit more soft, almost like there was a spring mechanism which disengaged it with more "class", sounding/feeling like it had some cushion (Not sure if I am explaining this so you can understand).
Since then it seems like I have some loose parts inside my steering column, every time I turn the wheel to the right or left, it seems like there is a bit of a grinding/rattling noise, not loud, one needs to listen for it.
EVERYTHING works on the steering wheel (steering wheel controls) as well as turn signal lever (including wipers, washers), but I am wondering now if there is indeed possibly a spring on the turn signal lever mechanism which has broke, making the lever not sound like it is "cushioned" when returning back to the original position, ...... and these loose parts possibly causing the grinding/rattling noise inside the column?
Any insight to this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
