BRAKE Service brake. Visit workshop

I just got this warning message on dash today while driving. According to user manual its not related to SBC malfunction. Anyone has ever got this message before? Car has 101k miles.

Brakes errors, especially when they can bring $3000 necessary service are very touchy subject.
From so many topics already on the forum - I think you are the first one who read the manual and I can't confirm if the manual checks in real life.
You have 2 ways you can attack the problem.
1. take it to SD and find the actual code (checking what standard scanner can read is worth a try)
2. inspect and start dropping parts.
Where I live, dealers want $150 for scanning, so I would start with pulling the wheels off and checking the pads. Brakes can always use extra inspection.
Than you have brake switch to test.
If those check OK, that is where simple DIY end and you really need to find the code.

Will an independent shop have Start diagnostic?

If they are MB specialist, they have to.
Not much you can do on those cars without SD.

might be one of those warnings before the SBC fails. better to have it looked at asap before this becomes another thread of how "SBC almost killed you". better safe than sorry.

Per others reports, you should have about a month before white notice become red warning.
Start saving.

You choose not to give MY of the car in question, but there is no real update.
First generation of SBC had smaller push limit and later MB found the pumps doing really good, so that they increased the limit.
Meaning if your car qualifies for limit increase, it will give you more time before pump replacement.

Its 2005. e320 4matic. Do you think its pointless to go to dealer for software update since indie already found c249f? I called dealer and he said " it might just need software update or relacement of unit". I dont want to spend $135 at dealer unless they can fix it with just a software update.

Check the forum as I think we do have info somewhere when the count got increased.
2005 being 3rd year of production makes me thinking about slim chances.
When you had the car scanned by indy, did he pull count number?
Than software updates suppose to be free at dealer?

Indie didnt give me count number just showed me c249f code. when indie went to sbc option under SD, it showed sbc working normally. Dealer said he will charge 135/hr for diagnosis. I read couple of posts here where dealer were able to just reset count and warning light was gone. I also read a post where it says dealers dont reset code anymore so I am very confused

Why are you confused?
If your year qualify for count increase (software upgrade) than you should get it free from dealer. Beside dealer I think you can go to your account on mbusa and see if your car has pending updates.
Your dealer should ask you for VIN and tell you if you have pending updates, if they didn't that is red flag.
Than depends on indy qualification he should find the count. I had friendly technician doing that for me and it took couple of try as his scanner went into advanced menu in German.
