Angry my squeaky brakes are

baaack. Now after the third "fix" and just under two months later, the d@mn "poi" noise is back and as pronouced as ever and drives me crazy. I hear it even with the radio attempting to drown it out.

I (mistakenly) really thought they had solved the problem. Then, out of the clear blue, the annoying noise is back with a vengeance. I think it is an engineering flaw and is NOT fixable.

Needless to say I'm pissed!

Hi Carnaught

Is this squeaky the 'groaning' caused by the SBCs ?

The noise I've complained about is not the rather loud hydraulic growl that occasionally sounds when one opens a door or depresses the brake or accelerator pedal. It is a high pitched squeak or whistle, what I call "poi", which is what it sounds like. It occurs more when the car is starting off cold and sometimes goes away after a period of driving. It IS related to the SBC braking system, however.

I think I know what noise you are talking about. I have heard several MB's do this. It seems to be only right after the car has been started, but it seems to go away later. And it is very loud.

might help

Mine squeaks too, and i only got 8400 miles on it.

Past experiece with other cars got me to try this and it seems to do the trick for a little while. From what i understand, the squeaking is caused by a glazing of the brake rotor. They way this fix this is by basically sanding down your rotor in small circles to "rough it up".

Another way that has been working for me is to do one aggressive stop. Get it up to 30 mph or so, then really lay on the breaks just short of locking up the tires. A BMW mechanic told me to do this with my 540, and it did the trick. Seems to work with my e500 too. it's temporary fix, but one you can do fairly easily.

just my 2 cents.

this squeak

is driving me crazy

I had three friends with me this evening and the sound was audible even above our chit-chatting, embarrassing.

Lightbulb I tried

what someone had mentioned. Namely, while going about 30mph., I stepped on the brakes briskly, but not enough to go thru the windshield. Well, since then, NO SQUEAK.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is a cure for the problem, just a temporaary "band-aid".

Exclamation Follow-up

One week later and still no "poi". I'm no fool though; like Arnold, I know it'll "be back".

Have the dealer change the rotors and pads.

thanks,

but the problem is not with the brakes and pads themselves, but the pedal.

By-the-way, no sooner did I mention yesterday that the sound was gone, but d@mn if it's not baaaack.
