25.3 Mpg
For my 250 miles trip in fairly easy traffic conditions, I got 25.3 mpg. I thought this was very impressive considering I was getting less than 18 mpg in the city driving conditions.

'08 AM Vantage V8 - '03 E500
Our '03 E500 gets about 17 mpg in around-town driving, a mixture of city streets and short freeway stretches with little stop-and-go. That's pretty close to the EPA rating, of course. Whether the two additional speeds on the '04 would make a significant difference, I don't know. Also, the 17 mpg I'm reporting is according to the car's on-board computer; whether that is accurate is another matter. I haven't tried to directly compute mileage using the distance traveled between fueling and amount of fuel added.

In San Francisco with all the hills and stop signs, my city mileage is very poor, about 9 - 10 mpg. I get up to 25 - 26 mpg on highway at 75 - 80 mph average speeds. I feel as if I have both Jekyl and Hyde in my car.
In comparison, my previous car, a Lexus GS300 had about 13 - 14 mpg city and 22 - 23 mpg highway.

My E320CDI is getting 28mpg (US) around town, and I think about 35 long distance. I am about to do a 20o mile trip so will see after that. The round town figure is for sure.
Yay diesel!

The diesel acceleration is very good. It has the same torque as an E500, but much less power. The torque is developed on a very flat curve with max torque from 1800-2600 revs.
This means that when you put your foot down, you get pushed back in your seat and the front of the car rises. It doesn't have the same rush as petrol at high revs though.
I am totally sold on diesel now, I love the performance characteristics, I laugh every time at how cheap it is to fill, and I hate buying gas and now I only do it very three weeks instead of once a week.

My experience is exactly like takeshi (even including the previous car). About 10 or so in pure city driving conditions (NYC), and can get up to around 25-26 on pure highway trips of decent distance. I probably overall average around 15 typically with the mix and traffic that I experience.
