CAR SHAKES REALLY BAD AT 40MPH + SPEEDS

Hi Benz owners,
I've changed the tires and rims, brakes, alignment, motor mounts, balanced tires, and as soon as the car starts rolling it begins to shake. Get her up to speeds of 40mph and beyond, it feels like the car is falling apart. Help!

Soooo tempted to say: OMG! Your car is falling apart!

Okay... you've eliminated most of the suspension related items, so start looking at the drive train... drive shaft... U-Joint, CV thingamabobs, and other such doohickeys.

Good luck... and don't worry.. there are a lot of very experienced folks on here who will give you actually good advice.

Check your Center Support and Bearing (A 2114100181). Can be tricky to see the wear at rest, as it may appear undamaged. Easier to see once removed, but the center bearing support mount can wear out and move the bearing out of center with the shaft, causing speed-related undulations. I asked MB to check the part on my car, they told me the part was inspected and was fine and they needed to pull apart the transmission to troubleshoot. I took the car back and removed and replaced the part myself, problem fixed.

Do you have access to a lift? See if the car does it driving on the rack. That would eliminate some items easily and give you views of other parts.

Sounds like a ball joint or control arm. However, just out of curiosity: did it start before or after changing tires?

Your situation is eerily similar to a problem I had with a BMW a few years back. The car would shake violently, especially over 40 mph, yes I know that feeling like the car is going to fall apart! I replaced just about everything in the suspension to no avail and ended up telling my mechanic how he was going to die. It turned out one of my brand-spanking new Dunlop tires was defective.

Changed out the tire and problem completely gone! It was weird driving it the first few times as you anticipate the shaking to start, but it keeps rolling smooth as silk. Then I had to apologize profusely to my mechanic. He understood, we're still friends, and I've never bought Dunlops since.
