That is interesting; after installing a new EGR valve myself (the upgraded one) in my V6 Bluetec, CEL light was on and off for a couple of weeks before it went away completely. I did not take it to the dealer to reflash, perhaps there was a engine learning process which took a while; whatever it was, it worked and I'm not questioning it

It was my understanding that in the reflash, a brain box change is made as though the current limits on the valve are increased to help it work as the carbon builds up. I've not opened up my EGR valve in the last 100,000 miles so don't know how it compares to when it failed in its first 50,000 miles.
