Ipod install with pics.
Just curious. It shows the cover art while you are playing the song? Are you saying that the cover art disappears over 8kph? Thanks. Oh, a pic would be cool.

Premises:
1. Wanted a clean look with all wires and equipment hidden away.
2. Songs played on iPod will be randomized from a large library hence visual display is not important.
3. Wanted the ability to conveniently skip to the next song and to turn iPod on and off.
4. iPod will be left in the car most of the time hence charging is required.
5. Quality of sound is important.
Equipment:
3rd Generation (3G) 20G iPod. Note the 40G iPods are slightly thicker:

The 20/30G iPods include the docking station, wired remote which are needed for the installation.
Berkin Auto Kit.

2004 E-class, DVD COMAND (North American Spec.) with AUX input in the glove box.
There is a large storage area under the arm rest, and if you cut the carpet in the storage area, there is *just* enough room to install the 3G iPod mounted vertically on the docking station, together with the wired remote plugged in on top.
Two wires are attached to the dock:
1. (White) Power which is connected to the rear cigarette lighter, via the Belkin Auto Kit
2. (Black) AUX line out, which is connected to the AUX line in in the glove box. The wire has been tugged behind the glove box trim and is run hidden along the center console tunnel. Any reputable stereo installer should be able to hide the wire for you. I have instructed the installer to leave the plug accessible in case I need to plug in another audio device (tape player, etc.)
Wired remote runs from the iPod to the cigarette lighter. This is important as the location has to be close to the iPod. Looking at Apple's wired remote control, it doesn't seem like an easy project to lengthen it. With the iPod stored away neatly under the arm rest, a remote is a must.
Notes:
1. To look for a more flexible installation, I have tried directly connecting a wire between the audio out on the Belkin cigarette lighter to the AUX plug in the glove box but the sound is much worse than using Apple's factory iPod dock. As a result, the dock becomes an essential component in this setup.
2. Telephone will mute the AUX channel.
3. There is no voice command to switch to AUX.
4. The sound quality is quite amazing and with the latest software, the Logic 7 and other audio setting will hold.
