W211 2008
fog lights

Hey ,

i have an W211 2008 and am facing a problem when am trying to switch on the rear fog light when switching on the lights on the low lights mode but it works fine when turning on all the lights, previously it was working fine and every thing was great on the first switch ( Low lights mode) after changing the front driver side SAM Module and the CGW (Central gateway control module) i faced that issue and i also noticed that when the fog lights are on and if i switch the high beam on the fog lights are turning off , so is that a normal thing !!! please if any one had the same issue or know how to fix this or what it could be please update me.

Regards,

Fog lights are supposed to go out when high beams are turned on.

You can change it with the Star tool, the American Version does what you are explaining.

In theory, high beams are worse in fog which is why if you have your high beams on, you must not be in fog. The light ends up shining back at you which is why you're supposed to use low beams in fog. Fog lights are for fog...

Exactly. So there's 2 of us who understand it. Generally with fog there is a space from the ground up of 12 to 18 inches where there is less or no fog. That's why fog lights are mounted low to shine under it and not reflect back into the driver's eyes. Yellow bulbs were used in the past to help you judge how far you were seeing. Depending on the condits, you can sometimes see farther with the fog lights only. Of course, if you want to blind yourself and everyone coming towards you, have at it.....
