2008 E350 Coolant/Antifreeze Change (Accessing Block Drains?)
Has anyone performed a coolant change on the M272 engine? In keeping with WIS instructions, coolant needs to be removed from the radiator drain and the two engine block drain plugs. I am finding it near impossible to access the engine block drains (6mm hex socket type) on both driver and passenger sides. It looks like if I removed the exhaust system I would be able to reach the drain plugs but that seems like a major undertaking.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have the Mac Tool version of the vacuum bleed and fill tool using compressed air. I thought I read somewhere that this tool doesn't have the "muscle" to remove the remaining coolant in the engine after the radiator is drained and that you need to drain the block before using it?
Thank you
Thank you

You are over-complicating the issue.
With Distillate Water selling for 87 cents/gallon at Walmart, just buy 6 gallons of it, drain whatever you can via the plug, refill with DW, drive for at least few miles, while operating heater, drain, refill, repeat as many times as you are comfortable and at the end put 1 gallon of MB coolant, topping off with DW.
That is all I do for CA. If you are in extreme freezing, to get 50% coolant you should put a cup of MB stuff more.
