Wood shift knob insert

I am still pursuing a Black Birdseye maple wood insert to the shift knob on my E500 Appearance Package. So far I haven’t found a source. Mercedes Benz parts doesn’t list it. There IS a picture of it in the 2003 U.S. brochure. It is a picture of the "Sport Package interior, shown in E320". So someone, at some time, made it. Now - how to track it down! Any leads would be appreciated.

I am also looking for the same thing. Two leads....

Check on getting a wood keyless go shift knob for a 2003 SL with black maple wood pkg. If they can detach the knob from the leather boot this would work. However, my dealer could not figure out how to detach the knob. Apparently the SL version does not have enough leather to cover the E500 opening.

Also, the 2004 SL with BLACK ASH wood package will match, but same issue with size of leather boot covering. If you are sucessful with this option let me know.

Thanks

I don't want a new knob -- just the wood insert

sorry, i did not read your question carefully enough the first time. I've just be so obsessed with finding a black maple keyless go knob, I immediately assumed you were doing the same thing.

Your point is interesting though, if you don't have keyless go, do you get the brushed metal insert vs. the wood?

Yes the brushed aluminum which is cool, for sure, but I would like the wood
