REAL competition for the W211 AMG...

Audi RS6 coming to the states in 2003, 450hp out of a twin-turbo 4.2 liter V8. Sub 5 to 60mph. Should be interesting. Audi puts out a quality car -- a little stark for me, but nice. Only thing is, I thought 2003 was the end of the current A6 model, so I guess it will be a last splash for the current A6 before the redo. Not a bad why to go out though...should be an interesting competition. Maybe MB won't "detune" the SL55 engine as much as some folks have predicted!

I can't attached the pic, but here is the address for the Autoweek article on the Audi.

Is the RS6 based on the new/current A4 chassis or the older A6?

yeah, but for $80,000??? I would not pay that much for it. I would rather get the new toys in the E, and get the Carlsson upgrade to 430hp. But that is just me. I like the A6, but for the money I would rather go with the E.

The new RS6 is one sweet ride. First of all, I am glad AUDI decided to bring it to the States. There will be sooooo many awesome cars on the streets in a couple of years. I love the AUDI's exterior, but think that it's biggest flaw is its somewhat outdated interior. The new E wins, because it has a new, gorgeous, and better equipped interior. I've also heard people complaning about AUDI's tranny, but cannot comment on that since I 've never driven an AUDI. I wish AMG made a more aggressive kit for the E-class though.

Here is my wishlist:
2003 silver SL 55 AMG
2003 tectite E 55 AMG
2003 black Range Rover
Ducati 996

Audi RS6

Will they offer it in all wheel drive- or is this front-trak or rear?

Thanks, Sean

I've driven an A8, and it was ok. I have to agree that Audi is crazy if they are pricing it at $80k. The current A6 with the 4.2 is ~$49k. A $30k premium for TT and a few other upgrades is WAY too much. The W211 is cutting edge all around, not just under the hood. But if Audi does price it there, at least the car rag testers won't be able to whine about the MB pricing. Regardless, I think the Audi will be an also ran when the new E55k and the new M5 come out.
