Window Tinting Question....

I'm looking at getting my windows tinted (sides and rear) and it was advised by the installer to contact MB about the tinting material possably interfering with the reception of the nav system. Appearently the navs antenna is in the back window??? My service department says they know of no problems, but I want to be sure....
Has anyone one here have this problem or have to choose an alternative window product for the reception for their nav??? Appearently the tinting material has a metalic material in it...

Avoid any metallized film on the rear windshield as possible. I've heard stories of people losing AM reception, interferences of GPS systems, and even losing range on people's remotes.

Llumar recently came out with a non metalized film that is ideal for your situation. Other brands to consider are Huper Optik and Madico. Check out their site.

I got the new Formula One Ceramic Film and it looks great, Great NAv, FM and Am reception. Cost more but supposedly it is more heat reflective.

I've got Huper Optik on the BMW. No decrease in radio reception or anything. Great stuff. Thing is if your E has the blue tinted windows, you already get pretty good heat rejection so you don't have to pay the cost of ceramic based tint. You can prolly go with regular non-metallic tint. Course, you can just get the ceramic tint and get like double the heat rejection.

codex57- Probably right on about the heat reflective properties of the high performance blue glass. In fact I read that the glass as is is 95% reflective.

I wanted to add as much reflective power as legally possible here in South Texas with the black/black combo. Also have the Air Ventilated seats and the solar panel option.I also have the rear roller blind and the rear side door blinds which I had the dealer install at delivery from my 03 E500. I am in and out of the car frequently during the day wearing suits and I frequently take clients to lunch golf etc... All the effort seems to work to keep it bearable.
