Anyone else have heater issues?

In the last day or two (though I've not used heater in sometime so it could be longer) my heater doesn't seem to work. If I set temp to the highest level it tries to blow tons of air... but all that comes out is cold. Anyone else had this?

Gonna take it to dealler to look, but just thought I'd check here too.

thanx,
sascha =)

You have the 4-Zone? Mine occasionally does the same thing. No matter what temp I set it at, it will put out cold air, and by putting up the temp, it will just make more cold air come out faster. Sometimes just turning it off and on again works, other times, I have to wait to "reboot" the car by turning it off and on.

It happened a couple of times to me this winter. I have a very late 2003 E320 without the 4 zone. I could usually clear it by pushing the "0" button and turning back on in a few seconds. I think, but am not sure, that it did the opposite by not turning on the a/c a week or two ago on a warm spring day. Again, same solution fixed it.

because ac is always on (default) and system uses ac to dehumidify and it blows air via ac for a while after you start the car but it should be back to normal soon. (you can trun ac off.)

Read again. When this occurs (and it is not often), the system does not work as it should. It keeps the a/c on forever until you either turn of the heating/cooling entirely by pushing the "0" (usually works) or you turn off the engine and restart it. It never turns off on its own when this abnormal condition occurs.

I have tried hitting the AC Off button in these instances, which does not work. Somewhat unrelated, I have tried the AC Off feature before, and it only sporadically works.

my ac on problem resolved

Somewhat related:

My AC would not turn on. The red light indicates that the AC is off, and when the AC button was pushed, the light would flash momentarly, then stay on (meaningthe AC was still off - goofy Germans!). No matter what temp I turned the thermostats to (2 zone sys.) Got to thinking I must be stupid, or didn't read the manual right, so I took it to the dealer where they confirmed that there was indeed a problem.

Fix: Software reload. Fixed in under an hour this morning. Also reloaded my CD software while they were at it. It was doing the Track #1 thing when restarted, even when it was actually playing track #3. Annoying for such a car.

Somewhat still related:

My defrost (during this winter) would sometimes not turn on. Light would indicate it's operating but no air blowing out of the vents - dead system. (Got to be quite interesting during a couple of cold mornings.) Never brought it in, and hoping that this was related to the AC issue.

I (still) have something similar with the defroster, except it will go on for a short time and then suddenly ALL the blowers turn off and climate controls go dead. Lights and indicators all on, just nothing is happening. Totally unresponsive to temperature change inputs, fan speed, etc. Will suddenly start working again after a few minutes. Dealer can find nothing wrong. And it is very interesting on a cold day. Nothing like wiping the frost off the inside of the front windshield of a $60k car!

rdtjr,

Decided to run the defrost this morning. Didn't need to, just curious if it would do the mysterious ops issue, which is exactly as you describe yours. Sure enough, it failed. As in, it starts off strong then nothing, even though all lights are on, indicating operation. Frustrating. Guess the software reload didn't fix this issue. However, the AC works now. Guess we are making progress. I agree with you, really confounding for a 60k car.

Well gents, I just got my car back from the dealer for having heater issues. Basically the car would not heat at all regardless of the setting, and if you used the front defroster it would ice the lower part of the window. Also had a sync problem with the pano roof occasionally. Turned out to be a low voltage issue in the overhead console where the controls for the roof and the sensors for the A/C system are. Tech rebooted the A/C computer with correct voltage jumped to the overhead console and all worked fine for heat and A/C. He then ordered and replaced the overhead console and now all is well. Not sure if your issues will be the same, but he told me the roof with the heater problems pointed him the right direction immediately. Grateful to have a tech that reads the MB TSB's and keeps up to date with model issues.

Regards,
Randy

First time out on a warm day. Max air conditioning kicked on and system died just like the defroster did on the cold days! Guess I will have to start wiping the sweat out of my eyes instead of scraping the frost off the windshield.

rdtjr -

Looks like I will be eventually scheduling another service appt. to see if they can solve this mystery. Sounds like we have the same problem.

Randy B -

Don't have the pano roof, just the standared sunroof. Still, I will mention it to the service writer. Unfortunately, telling anything to my service writer seems to be a waste of time. Wish I could just speak directly to the tech and bypass the confusion.
