Deeper exhaust without being too loud?

I currently have a stock exhaust in my w211 and I want it to sound deeper without waking up the whole neighborhood. Wouldn't mind a performance increase. I heard X-pipes are the way to go but not really sure. I was thinking a resonator delete might be good. Appreciate any and all help.

Im considering the same thing. Magnaflow makes one that looks right and I've read alot of positive reviews. I want to do the muffler too so I looked at Magnaflow again, but now I'm also considering an AMG muffler. Fitment is the question.

ps...im also planning on headers.

Mine has an X-Pipe on it. It added a little bit more of a grumble to it. You can always give that a try - see how you like it. If it's not enough.. then look @ swapping to C63 mufflers.

I got outbid by someone doing a local pickup on ebay for a eisenmann muffler set. But this company makes AMG mufflers. Are they the same? I found some e63 and e55 amg mufflers on craigslist.
