V1 Hardwire ideas???

I have a 2004 E55 and a 2004 E500 and I want to hardwire V1's into both vehicles. Has anyone here done this with their W211?

I talked to some techs but they needed to check their paperwork before giving me final word as to which wires would be best to tap for power.

We need a wire on the circuit "15" for this is the circuit that is not active when the cars ignition is turned off. Circuit "30" stays active all the time and requires the detector to be manually powered down each time you leave the vehicle (and we all know that will get old very fast).

So if you have tapped any power source in the headliner please let me know. I would love to see some pictures if that is possible.

If all else fails i can tap the cigarette lighter but that means i need to run wires up the piller and under the dashboard. I Would rather not pull the A-piller off being that there is an airbag under that nice trim piece.

Open to all ideas.

Thanks for your help!

I tapped into the cig lighter, as many of the wires in the headliner are the flatwires, which you can't tap into. The A pillar has a canister under the trim, but no actual airbag. The trim is attached with hidden clips, so you just need to pull on it. From there, you can fish a wire under the dash to the cigarette lighter.

Don't recall anyone tapping into the headliner.

Hope that helps.

I too tried to attach to the headliner but I couldn't find a ignition only wire, so I settled for the cigarette lighter connection. Works great though. Saved me just last Saturday from a sure ticket.

Sounds good...Thanks for the info!

Clearly you know the process very well so could you explain how you "fished" the wire under the dash to the A pillar? Also, once at the top of the A pillar how did you get under the headliner to fish the wire to the center of the window.

If you happen to have any photos of the process I would love to see them.

Did you have to pull the wood on the center counsel up in order to remove the trim around the ash tray?

I can't wait to get rid of that cord that goes across my Comand system and through my line of sight.

New up....ZX-3 laser Jammer!

Anyone here install one of those?

Thanks for all the help

Lightbulb I also hardwired a V1 with Concealed Display Unit

I had someone install the pieces but I believe he got the power from the lighter as well.

See following link for photos. Perhaps someone else can link them here?

You can run the wire from the rear view mirror area under the headliner simply by pushing up behind the headliner where the front of the headliner meets the windscreen. Tight but doable.

Pull the trim back on the a-pillar from the top. It's snug, just be careful but firm. Then remove the fuse box cover on the side of the dash - it's covered by the door when the door is closed. Also remove the panel under the dash on the driver's side - you have to remve the hood release first. You can then use a coat hanger or such to fish the wire down the hole expose by the removal of teh a-pillar trim. There is insulation in the way, but you can push through it fairly easily. Replace the a-pillar trim.

The wire is now exposed under the dash. You must pull up the center console wood trim from the front and turn it a bit so you can tehn pull out the ash tray. The ash tray is a bit tricky to get out, but pulls out from the front bottom part where there are two clips holding it in.

You can now run the wire across under the dash and behind the the open ash tray compartment and hook the wires up.

Or you can just pay someone to do it, unless you enjoy working on cars like I do.

I know what I will be doing tonight! Those directions seem fairly easy and I just tried pulling off some of the trip peices and it is far easier than I ever expected! Need to go purchase a longer cord being that the one provided with the V1 seems to be about 1-2 feet too short.

Thanks for the help! I can get my center stack free from V1 wires once and for all!

IT was very simple...

I hard wired the V1into the E500 last night and it was very simple. I am not one for wrenching on my own car but this was something I had no trouble finishing.

Your directions were spot on and they made the job almost too simple.

This weekend I need to hard wire the E55k and then both will be complete!

Thanks RebBaron
