So, I have a portable OBD scanner that works thru wifi that connects to an app on my phone and with it you can read basic engines codes as well as intake temp, catalyst temp, coolant temp, etc. but there is this one that reads timing and mine reads positive 16 degrees, what does this mean? Is this good or bad? what does a negative timing mean? Thanks in advance!

FYI--the spark execution is adjustable via the engine ECU and measured from cylinder one at TDC(top dead center)(see crankshaft pulley) therefore if you are reading before, that means that the spark is executed at so many degrees before TDC ---surely that makes sense to you!!


Study your engine to determine what is good and bad timing!!

Is it changing when you rev the engine?
What app are you using?
I have torque pro and don't see such option.
What I did have the app keeping my car awake overnight and discharging the battery.
That was at the time when phone was close to the car and I am still investigating the issue.
