Thumbs up newbie loves your site, also in the market

Hi all, I have to say I love the site, respect for all of you. Countless hours already spent on the board, much more coming this weekend, can’t get enough of it.

Finally became a member, need some advise on shopping for my next car. I currently own a 2002 c240 (not mentioning paid sticker price, wish have found this site earlier).
I am thinking to sell my c240, I am guessing somewhere around $26000. With a little help of local bank, my budget will be around $46000.

Should I go for a used loaded 03, or 04 basic (I just check the invoice for 04 E320 is $44,710 )? After seeing all those little electrical problems with 03 models, I would really love to have a 04 model. A lot of you have mentioned that you paid around invoice, and got the cars from MarcusBenz, How can I contact him/her?

At last, anybody thinks that I should hold on to my c240, buy a new 04 E320 when I got enough $$$$ (my girlfreind's thought), in a year or so? Consider I am only in my mid 20s, but have always been craaaaazy about benz, particular the E (who knows maybe I will like S when I get little older)?

Any comments, suggestions? Please help!!!!!!!! Sorry for the long message, I feel like just talking to a bunch of friends.

Hey,
Its always nice to get a new member. I'm also on the market and hope to purchase my first benz by the end of this year. A way to contact marcus benz is to to go to the tab on the upper right hand corner under members. There you can search for his name and ask him questions. From what I hear he's a pretty nice sales guy. (I know thats rare). One of his posts has said that he has been able to get around $4500 off the MSRP for a new E which, according to him, is a good price. Hope this helps and have fun shopping for your new car.

Welcome, benz ever!

I have had only very minor problems with my 2003, partly (I think) because I preferred a more basic car. I think a lot of people had more problems with some of the more exotic gadgets. I vote for the basic 2004. There's nothing like a brand new car that is 100% all yours! Get it with every single option you want, though! Then enjoy! It's a great car!

Just an added thought--since you're in your twenties and will take a pretty major hit if you only own your car a couple of years, make sure your overall financial plan has been given proper thought. Have you bought real estate yet? You might want to consider buying real estate first and then upgrading your car later--once you have started feeling the financial benefits of owning your own home.

Also welcome coconutpolito!

I say get some money together till you have enough for a moderately loaded e320. I paid around 5K less than sticker without too much trouble on a car that had been sitting on the lot for a month. completly stock e sux. I mean treat yourself man, you already have had entry level, move up to a nicely loaded E class.

Smile Thanks for the concern

Thanks for all of your comments and concerns. I guess I am the lucky one that inherited some real estate from my parents. So I figure that e320 will be my next big financial investment (sort of, I know the car depreciates so much nowadays). That’s why I don’t want to go over 45K. Keep up the good work, and have a nice day.

note the thread about the decontenting that has already gone into production. if you want an E320 and are ready to purchase, move now and get something from dealer stock or something at the port already. otherwise, you will get the lesser brakes, no entry lights, no lumbar, etc.

MarcusBenz is selling the cars for around $1500-2000 under invoice... Or at least he was! The Cali market is so competitive.

Dont waste your time on a stripped E320. Might as well get an Acura, much better value.

Ultimately, its about preference, and what reasons you are buying this car for.

Read the boards, revisit what options you might also consider, and see what would make driving that much for enjoyable, its worth it.

those FWD competitors just don't "have it" in terms of driving feel, japanese quality aside. might as well just get a Honda Accord if you are going to get an Acura. Infiniti is the only way to go if you want to go japanese IMHO.

Either way, its like dating a supermodel wearing a trash bag, and only making it to first base. You just dont get the same effect. If I didnt have 4 climate, airmatic, navi, pano roof, keyless go, 6 disc chgr, etc etc, I dont think id even call it the same car.

I say go for it. If you're gonna buy a benz, its not gonna change your life to ad a couple grand in options. You will wish you had.

its not a question of adding some money. how do you get the original better brakes on the 320 now? you can't apparently, I guess you have to get the 500. Rather then deleting the brakes, the entrance lights, the lumbar support - they should have just added 200-300 $$$s to the price of the car and retained those items.

i think a totally stock e320 is like a fully loaded acura or infiniti..without the navigation..plus the looks of the interior blows away the interior of either of those cars.thats my opinion..

What do you mean lesser brakes? Did they get rid of the computer controlled brakes on the E320? I hope they made that an option. I hate those things. Have a mind of their own.

But yeah, the Appearance package is like the 03 Sport Package for the same price but minus the Airmatic suspension.

the thing about the brakes being "downgraded" from the 4 piston in the 320 was incorrect - it never had a 4 piston front brake. but the other stuff is being de-contented, apparently for 2005.

Re: newbie loves your site, also in the market

We just bought a 2004 E320 yesterday, pretty much loaded (GPS, massage seat, auto-shade, premium package ....). $3K bellow invoice. I think. FYI, MSRP is $57K, we paid $50K, before tax and license.

I think there's a lot of room to negotiate on cars like Benz W211 and BMW 5 serie. The competition is pretty stiff.

Here's another pix. Car is alright. I think Mercedes Benz somehow lost its magic touch in building car, don't feel that solid, attention to detail, and classy appearance anymore.
