Exact W211 Drive CYcle
Hi Everyone,
I recently failed smog as a result of Evap and Catalyst failure. I have found exact drive cycles for other chassis designations but not for the W211. Can anyone help??
And to save time, "Just drive it for 60 miles with varying speeds" is not the answer I am respectfully requesting. I replaced both batteries 2 months ago and have driven for over 200 miles, pass smog on all other points. I need the exact specs for W211 drive cycle. Thanks!!!

If you have catalyst failure driving it around isn't going to help. Time to spend the money on a new cat for it if you know which one is bad. High flow cats are also a no-go in CA so you'll have to get OEM ones.
Evap failure could be a bad hose or gas cap. My Durango has a CEL for that currently. I just replace the ****ty aftermarket hose to the evap canister a month or so before it needs a smog. They last a few months before splitting and throwing a CEL again. The OEM ones lasted 10 years. I should just go buy them again.

Thanks for the reply but I completely disagree with regards to my issue. While the issues you stated could cause smog failure, they would not show the failures as reported. Like I stated, I am looked for the DRIVE CYCLE requirements for a W211. My model being an E320. That's it...

And in addition, if you get a Catalyst failure during smog you absolutely could clear it via drive cycle, especially in a situation where you recently replaced the battery. Like I said, replaced both batteries, resets OBDII, and you need to complete a drive cycle to show a read/pass to pass California emission standards.

Thanks Gangrene3075
!!! That did the trick!!! Passed with flying colors, then spend 2 hours dicking around at the DMV.... at least that's done!!!

Here's some helpful advice. Get AAA. It's 100% worth having so you don't have to go to the DMV for most things. It's rare that I spend more than 10-15 minutes waiting at the Concord branch. Usually it's only a couple of minutes. As long as you have your paperwork ready they get you in/out fast too.

The only time I've been to that DMV is for VIN verifications and they're fast with that. Never had to wait outside for more than 5 minutes. Can't say that about the WC one, which I fully try to avoid now.

I do have AAA, but they did not offer me the service, while I do make appointments with DMV.
Las Vegas office takes me in after about 3 minutes with appointment.
In California even with appointment it still come close to 1 hr.
Most of my cases require vehicle verification and I don't think AAA can do that.
Now coming to drive cycle, I got catch on it as well. Turn out that when I shift to D about 2 seconds after turning ignition on, the cycle require some idling.
Peach link shows short version, while google will find you official OBD requirements.
