headlight wire insulation failure

headlight wire insulation failure
I had to replace left low beam lamp. When I pulled socket out to replace lamp, insulation began to fall off wires. It wasn't burnt - it just fell off like bad plastic.
I carefully replaced socket and kept wires apart but I don't like it.
Anyone have a similar problem?
Thanks

Same problem with our 2007 W211. I discovered the disappearing insulation while replacing the light bulbs. I separated the wires so that they didn't make contact. I intended to "paint" each wire with Liquid Tape, but my hands were so bloodied by the bulb replacement process that I never got around to taking care of the exposed wires. That was nearly 7 years ago ... I'm leaving well enough alone.

All early W211's have this issue 2003-2006 The supplier they used had very low grade wire insulation and they didn't know until years later.
Sure it doesn't look good but lights will still function normally.
If you really worried about it wrap with electrical tape?
