Hey guys-gals. My girlfriends 07' e550 compressor is out on the suspension and Im looking to replace or rebuild it. I have wrenching skills but don't know where to start. HELP! Thank you upfront. Jet
#1-what brand name compressor is it?
#2-good inexpensive place to buy kit/rebuild?
#3-her car has dropped can I drive it to move it? Just a few 100-200 ft.
What do you mean by compressor "out" ? Not running at all? Maybe compressor relay or 40 amp fuse blown...Or motor is bad on compressor. Replacement Compressors are around $130+ on the web.
If it is slow to build up pressure, besides a leak somewhere, the internal ring on the compressor piston could be worn out. These rings are included on the inexpensive rebuild kits. I would recommend the rebuild kits that include new plastic piston ring, new internal filter disks and new desiccant. You can re-activate the existing moisture laden desiccant in the oven to save a few bucks as those kits without it are less. I also recommend replacing the external air filter canister at the same time since it's right next to the compressor.
