Battery dead, trunk does not open with key
Hi all,
First post on here and you are my last resort on this.
My car is left standing with no batteries, thus means I cannot open the trunk with the key fob and neither does my key work to the trunk, it simply wont open with the key.
The problem is that the battery is in the trunk so I cannot jump start it, as I cannot get to the trunk. What do I do?
I did find this (see attached image). Should I be able to attack jump starter cables (positive) to this and see if I get enough power to open the trunk? Perhaps, just a but. The jump starter cables are to thick and I cannot grasp the nut I highlighted on the image.
Kind regards,
A owner of a standing E200 2005, WDB211 that has no batteries and a defective trunk

Sorry, no other suggestions from me. I would be careful connecting jumper cables to anything on our vehicles. Too many voltage spikes can happen. I still think opening the trunk with the key is your best bet. Try turning the key around (180 degrees). Another suggestion is to connect a battery through the cigarette lighter socket toi get power to open the trunk. You will have to turn the key on to open the circuit for the cigarette lighter. Here are a some of online searches:

Do you have fold down rear seats? If so, could you get into the trunk and try pressing the emergency trunk release from in there? I have no idea if that would work with a dead battery though.

user error. metal key always unlocks and opens trunk unless lock cylinder is defective.
and no, your battery is wired to your front pre-fuse, located beneath passenger front carpet, which in turn is wired to your passenger side sam. So you are in the incorrect location to jump battery. If you were trying to jump starter then yeah, driver side sam (purple wire). But battery is wired to front prefuse/pass-SAM.

The simple question is does the key turn? If it turns, then you have the right key. Try turning it the other way. You lift the trunk handle while the key is turned. Worse case is you can try one of the cigarette lighter jump start packs. Takes a lot longer, but maybe you can put the key in, put power through the cigarette lighter and then hit the trunk open button.

This video shows how to work the steel key in the trunk:
Saw a video of a guy jacking the car up and attaching 12VDC power to the alternator to get the doors to open after the battery drained and he didn't have the valet key, but the keyless fob was operational.
Not a job for beginners or the faint at heart.

OK. I managed to get this fixed.
I spent countless of hours on google and yotuube, and finally after all attempts what only worked was this:
Thank you all for your help.
I'll add some keywords, as I suspect others will find this thread with time.

Hmmm. This is new to me, and I have been servicing 211's and 220's since they were first introduced! Thank You Warlocky. You learn something new everyday.

You can jump them from the wiper cowl pre-fuse area, I've done it with a booster pack and a screwdriver to reach in and make the contact, gives you enough to electronically release the trunk and then apply the jumper on the battery.
