Trouble removing cables under CD player...

Hi guys,

I've been watching videos and searching forums about switching out the iPod connector for the aux cord. I'm a new owner of a 2008 E63 and have the aux port in the glove compartment.

I was able to get through most of the process until I removed the ashtray and had to remove the cable attachments underneath the disk changer. For the life of me, I couldn't get them to detach without feeling I'd break something. Is there a trick to it? Any tips would be great Cheers!

Watch this. Language warning just in case you have kids that could be close by.

edit: Had more written, but brain farted on what was hooked up where. It wasn't difficult and didn't take long to get everything apart when I did mine.

Totally worth doing. It's so nice being able to just run Spotify on my phone through the aux input now.

Thanks! I'd actually watched this video front to back several times but
it's a bit difficult to see what he does when he sticks his hands into the console.

I'll try detaching that block from where it clips in and maybe that'll let me more
slack to work with the connectors.

Real excited to finally listen to something other than the radio!
I considered a bluetooth adapter but not being able to power it without
the car on threw me off. Cheers!

That whole block that the harnesses connect to just pops off. Mine came off when taking everything apart, but the harnesses still need to be disconnected. It's got 3 (IIRC) harness connected to it. Also, the 2 screws for the head unit don't come out. Just keep unscrewing until it slides out freely. They're a lot longer than you think they should be.

Judging by a broken mount for the ashtray on mine it wasn't the first time someone was in there.

For anyone who attempts this in the future, if your connectors don't want to disconnect, I got the left and right ones out with pliers. The optical cables in the middle come out when you depress the tab (you can see it from the front).
