Wheel alignment

I just wanted a quick opinion on whether or not one should always have a wheel alignment done after replacing with new tires? My car has true alignment as evidenced with the even wear in all 4 tires and from handling. So just wondering if I should skip by alignment? Do the e320 cdi 2006 hold up alignment pretty well?

Don't do the alignment after having new tires. Believe me it's not easy to have a good alignment done! When you have it, don't touch it. New tires have nothing to do with existing good alignment. I have changed tires many times on different cars and never touched existing good alignment!

I totally concur. Why fix something that ain't broke. It has just become a racket. Tire sellers and dealers all want to sell you an alignment anytime one gets new tires.

alignnment

On a normal car I would say go for the alignment. But my experience with getting my 211 aligned was an expensive experience. The 211 doesn't have a conventional camber adjustment. Special expensive bolts are required and most alignment shops will tell you they can't or don't do the camber. They refer you to the dealer. My alignment needed three out of the four bolts, cost of the alignment at the dealer was $400.00
So if it ain't broke, and your tires are wearing equally, I would skip the alignment.
Just my opinion.

Purchased a tire when I brought my vehicle, my indie was like don't do alignment The new tire would " throw off balance ", so i didn't
No problems with ride quality. If all components within suspension on not giving you issues then you should theoretically be okay..

i used to have a '05 w211, when i put rims on it i had it aligned. At that time, the camber bolts were just $20/ea. And $80 for the alignment w/ $50 install charge for both bolts.
I'm in l.a. and my alignment guy is pretty good and easy to deal with. He charges a little bit more now, of course but definitely not $400, for just camber bolts and alignment...

I just take it to a Goodyear dealer, they sell 3 year alignment warranties. All they basically do is adjust toe on the front and rear, without those bolts, you can't do the camber adjustments. I think it was something like $169 for the 3 year warranty. I go probably twice a year. I think there's a few other places like NTB and Firestone that also does them and they may have 5 year warranties. Hit a good pothole and you notice instantly that it's a little off. Hit an even better one and you get a dented rim and tire bubble...

Probably not needed if things look good on your worn tires, but you can always check your alignment without adjusting anything if you have a question about it. My shop will give me a full report (camber, caster, alignment) for 10 bucks or so without changing anything, so I usually do one if it's been a while and am putting new tires on.

My 2cents

The answer to terrecota's question is found by an examination of wear patterns on the replaced tires. If wear has been even, don't waste money on an alignment.

This advice assumes the owner is conscientious about tire pressures and periodic tire rotation.
