E500 Price Question

Hi all. I'm a new member here looking for a new 2004 E500 with premium pkg, appearence pkg, wood wheel, and sat radio. My local dealer quoted me $60K even (MSRP $64600) plus $250 (tags and internet fee) plus state tax, so that's $4600 discount. Is this a good deal? He also said the 2005's will be delivered in late June/July and I could order one of those and get my same discount (but the premium pkg is $1K more). Should I get this 2004 now (it will be here Monday) or order a 2005 for delivery in June/July? Thanks for you help.

i would get the 2004 - 2005 will not have free scheduled maintenance and there is a rumor that it will not have the SBC braking system...

not yet sure what that SBC deletion really means for US cars. The 2005 won't have the illuminated entry lights below the mirrors, and I guess it won't have the climate controlled storage bin.

Regarding price - are you in california?

the only reason I mentioned that is that prices are lower in southern california, below invoice in some cases. there is a dealer on this board, marcusbenz, who does deals with out of state buyers at CA prices.

I think that the price quoted is really good.

Regarding the decontenting of the E. I think that 2004 Es produced recently (past month) already have these features removed. Although they still have the SBC brakes.

That price sounds really good to me if it includes the $1000.00 Gas Guzzler Tax..... I paid $60,308 + tax and lic... ($1000.00 over invoice was the deal). This included the gas guzzler fee and all options ordered... As far as an 04 vs 05, its hard to say personally.... Talk here says some creature comforts will be omitted in next years models ( taken with a grain of salt) and also the "free" maintanence is history( sounds for real, also no big deal to me personally) so I guess it boils down to how importaint the free maintenence is to you and how fast you want that bad ride under your ***...... As far as getting a car for under invoice as mentioned, well this seems to be very true but this would get you a e320 and NOT the e500...Goodluck with you decision.

Which Maryland dealer? I priced at Herb Gordon and bought at EuroMotor Cars. Euro was much more agressive, but it sounds like a great price.

Check the prices at Edmunds.com and kbb.com. Be careful how you "outfit" the car. I started at mbusa.com and then went to these other sites.

Edmunds had the invoice for this car around $58,800. Watch the fees (what is an "internet" fee). Some dealers give great prices and "get you" on the financing to make up for the "loss" on the car price. If you aren't financing or leasing then that is a "non-issue". Go for the 04 "free" maintenance can save some $$$.

I'd like to hear what happened.

The dealer was Herb Gordon. They say the car should be here by Friday. The quote was for $60K even (E500, prem pkg, app pkg, wood wheel, sat radio, gaz guzzler tx). The internet fee is $99. Liscense and registration is about $150. Taxes (5%) at about $3000. I'll let you know what I decide. What was your deal like at Euromotorcars?

Got an E320 not an E500. The deal at Euro was simple, they had to make enough room to absorb the remaining 3 months on my GS 300 lease. They discounted the car about $3,100 the same as Herb. The difference was that Herb told me the car had to be trucked in $400 extra. They didn't tell me the car was in Bethesda.

Herb did mark up the financing to compensate somewhat for the discount. I know this because I asked what the money factor was and then went home and used an online lease calculator to see where they were.

I low balled Euro and they took the deal. Same car, no trucking charges and a lower lease payment (about $40 per month).

Dont get me wrong, Herb is a decent dealer, they never called back to see if I had made a decision, that puzzled me.

Finally picked up my new E500 (premium pkg, appearence pkg, wood wheel, pewter/stone) for $4750 off MSRP. I'm not so sure that was a great deal, but I'm happy with it.

Trading cars muddies the water so it's hard to know just what kind of deal you got but I'll say one thing for you, you saved a bundle on fees. That car would have cost me about $900 or more just to license it. It's even worse in California.

Also, I was told that at least some Mercedes in Southern California have a $600 advertising fee tacked on by MBUSA. Some dealers will also change you $100 for *paperwork*.

I've learned that when you price a car you need to ask exactly how big a check you're going to have to write. It's almost always more than you expected.

Anyway, congratulations on a great car.

BTW, having owned a GS-300, would you have an opinion on the GS-430?

We considered the GS 430. My wife thought that compared to the E 320 the car was too "floaty" (her term). We both thought the power was awesome compared to her GS 300 which had a sweet inline 6, but felt the suspension was too much like a blvd cruiser and did not handle like other cars in its class (5 Series, E class, A6).

The GS is a wonderful car with plenty of power for most instances, we thoroughly enjoyed owning it. Maybe the new GS will resolve those the issues with handling and be more firm (sport package).
