Question on Panorama roof

I am trying to find a reason to change my order from Panorama roof to sliding glass roof. If I order the sliding glass roof, I can get the premium package with all the goodies. With the panorama roof I can't get rear or side roller blinds and everything is ala carte ($$)

Soooo..... tell me all the bad things about the panorama roof....

I have panorama with the rear and side blinds on my E55. Had it on my 500 as well. The big plus is the solar panel option. THe biggest negative to me is that I don't like it with light colors. I have black though. Also, it opens up over the roof instead of in it like the other sunroof.

i traded in my '03 with pano for a new '04 with sunroof only.... i must say i miss the look and ambiance the pano supplied. the interior dome light is better looking on the pano too. also i like the way the glass slides over the pano rather than the sunroof slides back in to the roof. IMO it gave a more aggressive stance.

don't worry about the rear and side sunshades...i had them both and never used them. besides, i am sure you'll get your windowns tinted.

When you pull the shade closed across the roof to block out the light, are there air louvers built-in like with the glass sunroof?

Don't buy that option, it is too noise on highway.

No it can't have any air louvres because the shade rolls up.

You can't one-touch close the panorama roof.

Hi,

Last year (03) I bought a E320 with regular sunroof. 3 months later I switch to a E500 with Pana roof. I immediately notice the difference of wind noise on highway. I work as MB sales and trust me. It isn't that bad, but a little noiser than regular sunroof.

Is the increased wind noise only with the roof open?

I'm also wondering why MB chose not to incorporate the 1-touch close with the panorama roof. I live in rainy Oregon, and have found the seats soaked after having forgotten to close the sunroof!!

At night the roof turns into a mirror so you can't really see out the top. MB should change it to just a dark tint instead of the mirror. Works great during the day though.

I love the pano roof and I have side blinds and the power rear blind so I gues that must be 2004 ordering restriction.

The pano roof gets the most comments next to the CD player cover going up and down. The solar panels are cool as well. No pun intended.

Have driven both "regular" sunroof and mine and haven't noticed the noise issue. I gotta think that glass that thick can shield noise as well as metal and insulation. Who knows. Good Luck!

Order it.- I had same problem. You wont notice the difference in price once you have it. Sets the car apart from others, and gets lots of comments. Also, very nice to have lots of light when driving during the day. One-touch close is missed.. another boner MB maneuver. Also, Can not have the tilt open with the shade closed. I miss this somewhat, as I had that capability in my old Audi and my M3. Pros outweigh the cons.

I love my pano roof, and did feel the car has less wind noise then the 99E430 I had with moonroof. The open shade and experience is awesome.

Roof and blinds

At the time I ordered my 2004 320E with Pano roof the only blinds I could order were the rear window.

The dealer called MBUSA to try to get them to add the side blinds to no avail. Their reply was something to the effect of not being able to make a modification for one car.

I had to go with the dealer installed side rear window blinds. They work just as well when in use but do not store as neatly like the factory ones which retract into the door itself. Am surprised that now you cannot even get the rear window blinds if you order the panoramic roof.
