Deep scratch on rear quarter panel..

I have a small scratch on the rear quarter, I have a silver C744 car and also the Meguirs / Benz car cleaning bucket. Is there anything in there that I can use to fill this scratch or do I have to buy the touch-up paint (that they no longer sell at any dealer here, for some reason).

I really do not want to mess anything up on car but this scratch goes so deep, not to the metal, but down to white and under that black.

If the scratch goes through the color coat to show white or black (primer?), then you don't have much alternative to buying the touch-up paint for a color match, as well as some other supplies. Here's one online primer for scratch repair; I'm sure there are others:

You didn't say if the scratch involved deformation of the sheet metal, in other words, a dent. If so, I've had good results with the "Paintless Dent Removal" (PDR) practitioners that use rods and such to massage out the dent.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.. No it didn't dent the sheet metal although it is down to primer. It was daughters baby seat anchor that made the small little scratch.. Ug!!

I wonder why Mercedes does not sell the touch up paint for their cars...

I couldn't check with my nearest dealer (M-B of Sacramento) whether they had touch-up paint because of the Parts Department's impenetrable voicemail system. I was able to talk to somebody in the Parts Department of the next-closest dealer, M-B of El Dorado Hills, and they do carry touch-up paint in at least some of the current colors, including my color (Desert Silver). It's a two-part kit (color and clear coat) and goes for $25 or so. I didn't ask if they shipped. The M-B EDH number is (916) 567-5100.

I opened the trunk on the '02 E320 while it was in the garage and a bike brake scored a major scratch out the trunk… I could rub out some of the smaller scratches, this major one goes to metal.

The best results were done by a local detail shop, they air brushed out the scratch, can't even find it, was $250.

We tried the following and it ended up the scratch was too depp:

http://www.langka.com/newsite/index2.html that sells some stuff to repair paint chips and scratches. It is used with original touchup paint and works pretty good. Basically, you apply the touchup paint, wait about 2 hours and then apply the Langka stuff and rub it over the scratch. It removes the excess touchup paint without harming original, cured, paint. Then you would buff out the area to really make it shine. This is a do-it-yourself job and probably won’t turn out perfect though.

One of my clients recently purchased an Obsidian 2004 CLK500 for his wife. She had it parked in some mall parking lot and came back to it with a scratch almost like the one you're suffering with. He went to Mercedes Service Center and they tried fixing it but messed up on the paint and ended up putting a whole new rear bumper on it. He ended up paying $2400 for everything...

$2400 MY GOD! In Canadian dollars that is like $8000000.00, hehe..

Yeah I am in Canada and called my dealer.. They said they do not sell touch-up paint.. Strange.. The dealership is owned by MBenz Canada.. Funny all the dealerships in Toronto are owned by MBenz and in the states only the one in NY is owned by MBenz.. (So I was told).

If anyone in Canada knows where I can get some C744 paint (Silver) let me know...!

Thanks!

You may want to build up layers of touch up paint in the scratch. Put a light layer on...then use a polishing compound to smooth it out. Continue to do this until the scratch is filled....then take it to the dealer and have them airbrush over it for a final smooth finish.

It may take a while but you'll end up happier in the end when you can't see the scratch or the cover up.
