Snow Chains and E500 Sport?

Snow Chains and E500 Sport?
So I need to travel through Colorado mountains occasionally and I was looking at buying a set of snow chains. I started reading the owners manual online and noticed this statement:

Use of snow chains is not permissible with tire sizes:

265/35 ZR18
T 155/70 R17 110M
T 175/55-18 95P

My car has the 265/35 R18 rear tires - so that means I can't use chains on my car? Any idea why? I would love some advice as to wether I can use chains or not. I do have the airmatic suspension and can raise my car by 0.8" in order to accommodate chains...

Anyway, thanks for any insight you may have.

Clearance issues? I have an AMG, but the raise function only lifts the front of my car.

**** it. Buy a set of chains and see if they'll work.

i have the amg suspension option - I'll have to see if the raise option only lifts the front ...

i could get the cables that are made for low profile tires and go from there

Put the chains on then bounce the fenders. You'll probably find the chains hitting plastic somewhere.

You think that's why they say not to use them with the sport package?

i made it over a few passes last year without chains, but it was a little more white knuckle than I would have preferred...

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2. Winter is over. (unless your state mandates actual tire chains for some conditions)

I like the snow tire concept ...

as as for buyinga beater - cheap 4x4's are hard to find and the only reason I care is when I have to drive long distance over passes. Around town my e500 does fine, I just can't go very fast
