Rear Dome Light
Hey, guys hows it going, sorry for being MIA for awhile just been really busy, glad to be back though. So recently I have been thinking of doing some tasteful OEM mods to my 09 W211, which I noticed jeez Mercedes did get rid of a lot of standard features from the 09 model and one of those being the rear ambient dome light with the glowing rim. My 2005 E500 had the illuminated rear dome light. So I was wondering is it possible to just buy one from a 05 W211 and install it, is it plug and go or would there have to be something done to program it, just curious, any other suggestions for OEM mods?

What im trying to do is add the illuminated rear dome light with the glowing ring because my car does not have it, so I wanted to see if it's a plug and play.

Buy one from eBay and try it, if not just send it back.
It’s good to have the correct part number, ask konigster to check the part number with your vin.
dont know if you have to code it, never seen that option but since yours came without it maybe you have to activate it on the central gateway.

Awesome, thank you, It's odd how in the 2009 model year, so many things were removed from the options. My next project would be adding the in dash cd changer but removing the cd changer and adding the storage compartment instead. Would you happen to know if the plugs would be the same for the dome light
Got, it. It kinda reads back that you want to get rid of that.

Yes please try this. I always wondered why they took it out from the later year w211's. The rear dome light looks nice but not sure if it's plug and play. See attached pictures of early over head console and then later. Appears to be the same shape. I can't tell 100% if mounting tabs are in the exact same spots? I looked on eBay and you can get a rear overhead console for around $35 so it's super cheap to try. I do know that just as noted above the rear passengers control the ambient lighting not like how it's controlled in the center cluster that the driver does for the front overhead console.

A word of warning - I took off my center dome to replace the bulbs with LED and when I did it stretched the headliner fabric at both pillar corners near the rear glass resulting in sagging. If I had it to do over again I would be extremely gentle pulling out the dome and also maybe try and prop something up at each corner to keep the headliner from pulling away. Good luck.

Yep just a simple pry tool then pull straight down once you get a corner. Very simple to remove. As noted be careful with the headliner but I didn't have any issues when I removed mine when I swapped out all bulbs for LEDs.
