Smile Flashing red light on central locking button

Hi, I'm new here so apologies if I do anything wrong!

I have a 2003 E-Class E240, W211. Today I noticed the central locking button was flashing red when the car was locked and unoccupied. I've had this car since new in 2003. I'm fairly certain I would have noticed this by now if it was a standard feature to show, for instance, that the car was locked. However, I believe something is wrong.

Coincidentally, I have just hard-wired in a Garmin dash cam. Could this be a coincidence? Perhaps I've broke something?

The main live battery lead for the Garmin is attached to a random fuse in the main driver's side fuse box which is permenantly live. The switched live cable is travelling along to where the cigarette lighter is in the central console. Maybe it's to do with that? Perhaps that's just a red herring. Easy to blame that I guess.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you everyone.

Adam.

I believe cars have separate live wires just for accessories, don’t know if the w211 has any. It’s better than tappin another fuse or wire which may cause trouble like in your case. I believe there’s accessories fuses shutout use, check the manual, on the fuse box section.
