Broken Wing Mirror

The driver's side (left) mirror was broken (again) and needs replacement. About 4 years ago it broke (someone must have punched it because there was blood on the mirror and on the window) and I was able to find a replacement on eBay for $90. It was heated and auto dimming. I can't find any replacements with auto dimming now. I do see entire housings and mirrors but I've heard that there are some differences between model years and can't be sure of the part number for the mirror glass only - don't want to have to swap out the entire housing and paint it either! I see that without the auto dimming but with heating, a new one from MB is $75-125.

Will the non-auto dimming mirror be a direct replacement or will there be issues with the wiring and plugs?

It is for a 2003 E500. The original part number WITH auto-dimming is 211 810 05 21. The part number WITHOUT auto-dimming is 211 810 01 21

Thanks

Glass compatibility is Pre facelift vs post facelift.
You can use a non dimming without warnings in cluster.

Thanks

I just noticed that the non dimming mirror part # is 203-810-01-21. The prefix # is 203 and not 211. Then I noticed that all of the mirror part #'s start with 203 EXCEPT for the auto dimming mirror which starts with 211. I assumed the first 3 numbers indicated it was for a W211 model.

Any suggestions for parts suppliers? I am not as concerned about using genuine OEM parts anymore

I just replaced both my wing mirrors with OEM Euro style aspherical glass units (auto dimming as well) and love them - totally eliminates blind spots.
Got a great deal on two gently used units in fantastic shape from an eBay seller in Europe who specializes in German car parts.
If you want I can message you his contact information - he had lots of mirror glass replacements a few weeks ago.

Please PM me with the info. Only things on ebay now are the cheap stick on replacement glass and the one used OEM glass I saw looked pretty beat up and the seller didn't reply to my question about it's condition.

I think 203s (c class) have compatible glass. Maybe that’s why those aren’t auto dimming.

Thanks Bahnstormer. I got in touch with them and Victor replied almost immediately. I ordered them today. It looks like they have flat glass in the main body of the glass and the far left side is curved for wide angle viewing. I had that on my 500 Abarth and it was very useful. Thanks for the link.

Victor is the man for OEM replacement mirror glass.
