Puzzled by reading in mm on oil dipstick (shop tool)
Hello there,
I did search everywhere, and could not get any relevant answers. On my W211 E320 CDI, the dash tool says I do have 6.3 quarts in(cold checked). The dipstick tool reads
110 mm cold, but it also reads 127 mm after 20 min of coming off the highway. Normally, I would have to add .05 quarts according to the dash reading(cold). But according to the dipstick PDF, the
amount to be added is 2.4 quarts if dipstick at 111 mm, or 2.5 if dipstick is at 110 mm.
I did take these measurements after an oil change, and I did put back in 6.2 quarts exactly(that was all my 5w40 Mobil Delvac ESP). Took out 7.5 quarts through the dipstick.
Anyone can point me to the right direction, please?
Browsing all the posts regarding this, there is no mention of hot vs cold differences regarding the oil level in mm on the PDF file. Only that cold oil should read slightly more than hot oil.
If I have overlooked it, please post the link.
Thank you

In the morning when I am on my desktop computer I will attach a couple of files pertaining to the dipstick measurements. Also your cdi takes 8 quarts when changing the oil and filter.
You really cannot go by the dashboard reading as one time I had mine reading 4.5 quarts after I changed the oil. I think it is reading what is in the oil pan and not circulating in the engine.

Here are a couple of pdf's referencing the dipstick measurements and how to check the oil via FSS, which you already know. According to the chart, properly filled oil should read between 133mm & 135mm.
