Airmatic Nightmare

2007 e550

Where is location of rear airmatic leveling sensor?

I've replaced valve block, compressor, relay, fuse, front air shocks, and now rear air shocks. Although everything was working fine prior to replacing the rear air shocks (two weeks after installing front) now the car won't inflate rear airbag. I'm getting an Airmatic Malfunction on the dash and the compressor won't switch on. I'm hoping it's the senor. Any suggestions?

Would anybody here happen to know the part number for this sensor. I can't find one anywhere online, or where to buy for that matter.

As a side note, I had a full head of hair prior to this experience.

Thanks,
Gary

I still have all the hair.
You choose the route of dropping parts instead of troubleshooting.
Unfortunately with modern cars you can .... lose your hair this way.
You need to diagnose the system and recommended way is using SD.
When I had troubles years ago and good scanners were hard to find, I install pressure gauge on air line. That allow me to figure out all the problems.
Now you do have hard code or burned out compressor. When there are ways to do it oldfashion way, now is good time to buy good scanner.

At least he doesn't have to worry about replacing all that stuff for awhile since he just threw parts at it.

Rear sensor is in the center near the diff, on the rear subframe. It's only got one vs. the left/right setup in the front.

It won't cause your compressor to not turn on, you should have the car tested properly before you just launch more parts at it.

Garcarcha,
PM me your email address and I can send you some troubleshooting info. Bottom line, however, is you need the proper diagnostic system; it will send you straight to the bad part and, in the long run, saves a crap-ton of money and aggravation.

I'm really surprised by some of the responses to my first request on MBWorld. I thought this was a forum where I could go to for help. How quick most are to "assume" and insult. No one is throwing parts at anything. In fact everything has been diagnosed along the way, with a scanner. A big thanks to bbirdwell for actually offering to help!

Oh, so we should just assume that you didn't throw parts at it and had the car properly diagnosed? Was it diagnosed by a dealer/shop or did you just use some scan tool? Most dealers could tell you exactly what the issue is with what they use. You mentioned nothing about scanning anything or having the car diagnosed in your original post, which is all we had to go off of. From what you posted there it 100% sounded like you were just throwing parts at the car trying to fix it.

Perhaps you shouldn't "assume" anything! I was asking for the location of the rear sensor not what you assumed I did or did not do. And for the record, my scanner didn't indicate most of what the professional scan did. Thanks for all of your expert advice and help.

So now you blame us that we took your note about loosing hair seriously?
I think you've got much more help than we got paid for the advice, so who should be the one complaining?
Next time you think you have only 1 question - google it and end of the story.

But I'm having fun watching you get kind of worked up over this. I'm bored at work and need to entertain myself somehow.

Garcarcha, if you've replaced multiple components in the suspension, especially ride height sensors, you're going to need to re-calibrate your suspension. To do that you are going to need access to a STAR diagnostic system and download an inclinometer app to your cell phone. Plan on about an hour to re-calibrate but it is not difficult at all.
