did the car have moisture or water inside the interior at some point? Possible mold issue?? I've been around many of these cars for years and I've never seen spots like that inside the gauges.

Did you fix it in any way?

Got the same problem with my 211 now. And my wife's parents. Their 211 has gone over 460.000km so i tought it had something to do with the high milage and long running time, but mine has only half of the km´s and now has 2 black spots aswell..
Really disturbing, and I'm not in the mode to change the whole instrument cluster.

now it is something else
last night I saw a strange yellow light like a tiny glowing spark moving around the cluster, sometimes on the bottom part sometimes on the other positions, it was very strange, seems like a short circuit of leds or something similar, do you know something similar ?

with the time passing it is getting worse, black dots all over
one service guy said it has the panel damaged and should be changed, others say it can be repaired

did anyone opened it to clean?
or all of us should exchange it with a new one?

In case somebody in the future finds this thread - problem is the white paper (it is actually "light" paper, dont know how to call in english). There is no led lights behind speedometer/clock etc, its the white paper itself that transmits light. It may burn down over time. Only solution is to dismantle the IC and replace the white gauges by new ones, which you can cut yourself, only problem is to find the paper itself. Then you solder 2 wires to it, connect them to IC and all done, new and bright again.

i have the same problem with my w211. I disassembled the instrument cluster and tried to clean it but it didn’t appear to have any difference. Im thinking of swaping the entire instrument cluster to a new one but im not sure if it needs any coding after??

You will need MB diagnostics to transfer stored data from original to replacement for simple swap see here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post7332126 view attachment & follow link to circumvent coding. Post VIN if you want me to pull instrument cluster part #.

I also have the same problem. I was searching and found this site where you can order the gauges: https://www.heiler-tachodesign.de/Ga...260-Kmh-Diesel

But I don't whether the colour of light of these gauges are the same as the original ones. I want exactly the same colour, not that cold LED-like blue-ish white, because that wouldn't match the rest of the interior. Everybody could see that it's not original.
