2007 E350 4Matic Wagon: Sachs to Bilstein problem

Just replaced the rear CV axle on the E350 4Matic Wagon with standard suspension (rear air springs only) and now putting in new Bilstein (19235219 equiv. to MB 2113264100) rear shocks. The old Sachs had broken in two. Do the new Bilsteins need a rubber washer below the body, as well as the rubber ring washer inside?

There is a gap when I release the lower control arm (fully extending the shock). I just can't get it tight enough (top nut is maxed against the stem/rod sleeve as it should be). I don't have the top of the old shock to compare length of Sachs vs Bilstein. Here is what I have: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...n-bil-19235219

To me it just seems like I need a rubber washer. Nothing included in the Bilstein boxes. Perhaps I'm supposed to use the old ones (now missing). Suggestions?

Here are a couple photos to illustrate.

A 1/4 inch gap exists after inside washer/nut is tightened.

Close-up of the Bilstein 19235219 (OE equiv. to 2113264100 -- rear non-airmatic, just air springs)

Inside washer nut unique to wagon.

The Sacks/OEM version of shock (2113264100) with what appears to be an extra rubber stop/cover.

The Bilstein 19235219. If the little sleeve were shortened (cut 1/4 inch) then I could tighten the shock flush to the car's body. But it would protrude into the rear cabin and likely interfere with the interior cladding. Sedans have more space here.

Dealer tell me that a bump stop may be needed (2103260468). Has anyone used their old OEM/Sachs bump stop on their Bilstein? Does it fit?
