Navigation question

Hello and happy new year to all. Recently purchased 2007 E320 Bluetec. The navigation is not working and needs the dvd. What exactly do I need to make the navigation function. Are the dvds for sale on eBay what I need? If so, what year do I buy?
Thanks again.

I bought an updated version (Mercedes Benz 2015-16 North America Navigation DVD Map T1000-22759 BQ6460327) from eBay vendor for $50

Looks like there are currently several listed:

Probably a dumb question but do I get the disc for my year (2007) or the most current (2017)?

Thanks!

I think 2015 - 2016 is the latest for these cars (at least for my 2008 model).
Make sure you ask the vendor(s) if it is compatible with your model!

Sounds like you are missing the original DVD altogether - make sure you are not getting just an update if that is the case?

Sorry, I am by no means knowledgeable about the Comand system - but I bought the 2015 - 2016 DVD little over year ago. I think it was the latest available for my car and it has worked 100% for what it is.
Keep in mind, this is over 10 years old navigation system / technology and it surely has it's limitations, but it works great as just a GPS map with pretty easy to use zoom in & out.

Nice to have an accurate map display on always when driving in unfamiliar area.

I use my iPhone whenever I need detailed driving directions since the Comand (2007 / 2008 version) is pretty awkward to use for that in my opinion.

Thank you!
Will this update work if he is missing the "original" DVD?

When updating, do you simply just install DVD?

As far as I recall, that is all I had to do.

I bought all the components (Euro Comand, processor, bracket, trunk panel, splitter, etc.) to install navigation in my 2003 E500 but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I also purchased one of those 2015-16 upgrade discs from eBay and thought I could just pop that in the drive and everything would work fine.
Do I need an original navigation disc to put in first and then install the update afterwards?
Sounds like you're saying the update disc alone is not enough for the unit to function.
Thanks for your help.

I’m wondering now if just installing a Garmin unit tapped into the cigarette lighter as a source is the way to go. Maybe install it on the windshield or somewhere on the dash. Any experiences or thoughts?
Thanks

For those who are not familiar with M-B W211: The navigation DVD is installed in to the navigation module DVD drive which is located in the trunk, on the left side.

If you do not mind the gps sitting on your dashboard, this is the best way to go. This way you can get quarterly map updates free from Garmin for the life of the $150 gps. Plus you can use Bluetooth for music, cell phone, and have traffic and weather on the gps. Something you are not going to get with any year Mercedes (that I know of). Just buying the two year old Navteq DvD map update is like $250 I think.

This is exactly why I just updated the Comand map and use iPhone for occasional navigation!
The phone is held in PanaVise bracket as seen below.

The Comand 2015 - 2016 version map works great for continuous map display, but it is little awkward for navigation - but hey it's now at least 10 years old technology (the Comand in my car that is).

I don't know that but hopefully someone here will clarify it?

Your location is ok for phone use, but I would want something a little higher for navigation.

Any $120 Garmin is better than the best MB nav system. To update the MB nav, they want you to take it to the dealer and give them a lot of money. Garmin updates on-line for free forever. OBW, when driving, you are best off not looking at the nav unit anyway. Ju8st listen to the voice directions and keep your eyes on the road.

Sure no argument there, not so long ago many times we were driving around with help of paper map on the passenger seat, or in your lap...

I'm not sure about your particular set up, but up til about 2008 all you had to do was put the navigation DVD in the trunk to update the nav. Didn't have to be original til 2009 when they updated NTG. People would just burn a copy of the DVD. For 2009, although I think you needed the original, it copied it to an HD so once it was installed, it wasn't need anymore so in the past people used to buy it, install it, then sell it. It got a little more complex later in the W212. I believe the comand updates were also on the DVD, but not sure if was enough to update comand on all 2003-2008.

Sure it's better especially it's way better than the 10 year old Comand in my car. No comparison.
I just don't want another gadget on my dashboard that's all, which is why I use iPhone for the occasional navigation and chose to spend $50 to update to 2015 / 2016 nav DVD for the Comand.
The iPhone is connected via Bluetooth and gives voice directions through the car's speakers just fine, no problem.

Having to remove & hiding additional Garmin or similar when parking the car in town is not something I would want to do.

Each to his own.
