1999 E320
error message at start

W211 2009 E350 speedmatic and cruise control inoperative when the car is started. Turned it off and the error went away.

I am off to the dealer to purchase the part. I reviewed YouTube on how to replace it, doesn't look that difficult. Thanks everyone for their replies.

You can just buy it online. Cheaper than the dealer.

Did mine a while ago, only tricky part was probably the nut for the center steering column, had to use an impact gun to get it loose. Otherwise the youtube video is pretty much spot on.

You might also want to get the car scanned to make sure it's the steering angle sensor, a bad wheel sensor or some other part could also give you the same error. I had an OBDII scanner that gave me specific MB codes and it gave me the bad steering angle sensor code.

I hope you know someone or can buy a cheap one, they range from $50-$100 or more. The dealer probably charges $150 just to have it scanned. The ones at the auto parts stores won't pick it up, they just do standard OBDII codes which is basically engine and emissions.
