Front end noise

I have an annoying sound with the front suspension of my car (2008 E550 RWD). It sounds like the front spring seats are on their way out, however with airmatic suspension I'm not sure if this applies. Every time the car goes over a bump in the road you hear the noise (like a rattle/clunking noise). This only happens during colder weather <60 degrees. My mechanic looked at all the suspension parts (bushing, tie rods, etc.) but could not find anything wrong. Any ideas what this could be? Due to the fact that this only happens with colder weather, could it be related to some lubricant that does not work well below certain temperatures?

does it make the same noise if you have the vehicle in raised mode? Usual suspects are loose bolts from previous repairs, sway bar end links, bushings, ball joints and I've even come across worn bushings on a steering rack. Lubricants can help in some areas, but aren't always able to reach or resolve the issues.

Yes, same noise in raised mode. Mechanic disconnected the sway bar (end links) and the noise was still there.

Usually it's the ball joints. They fail a lot of these cars.

Is there anyway to check if it's the upper or lower ball joints? And still confused why this would only happen during colder weather.
