2009 questions

I test drove a 2009 E350 with what I believe has the sport suspension (very short drive). I've never owned a Mercedes nor have I done much research so have a few questions. The road noise seemed to be a little on the high side and I didn't see what tires are on there. I'm guessing it may be because of the lower profile tires, but not 100 percent sure as it's the only one I drove. I didn't hear much wind noise.

The wheel gap is uneven. Is that also due to the sport suspension?

Is there anything i should look for? It has 63k miles and it's RWD. They're asking 12,700 for it. Thanks in advance. (I really enjoyed the firm ride and steering was way more responsive than I expected)

I had a 2009 E350 Rwd as a master lease car a few years back. Absolutely loved that car and miss it. The road noise is more than likely just some worn tires, but without checking things out, I wouldn't rule out a potential wheel bearing. As for the wheel gap, are you talking about from side to side or front to rear?

Basically the gap above the tire is much smaller than on the sides. I've typically seen this on cars that are lowered aftermarket.

It is possible, but unless the tires are tucked up inside the fenders I wouldn't worry too much about it. Did the car feel loose in the back while driving it? Could potentially have a broken coil spring, or someone could have installed some lowering springs which aren't hard to swap out.

Edit: Do you have a full side shot of the car? It looks like it's probably lowered a bit going off that one pic.

For reference, here's my E63 with the rear suspension fully bottomed out. You don't want to see one of these cars looking like that.

The car didn't feel loose. Very planted.

This does not have airmatic so shouldn't be a big deal either way I'd think

Full side shot doesn't seem bad.. Just a lot tighter wheel gaps than I'm used to perhaps.

Yeah, that does look a little lower than it should. If you go check out the car again, you can always take a peek inside the wheels at the shocks/springs and see if there is something other than a black coil spring in there. Usually the aftermarket stuff is something other than black. The other way to check is to get an alignment performed and have them check the actual ride height of the vehicle versus what it should be using a Hunter alignment setup and an angle sensor such as a Rommess gauge.

IMO, these cars have a bit more road noise than I think they should. My E39 Sport was quite a bit quieter. I'll be swapping my somewhat worn Michelin Pilot Sport's for something else and will report back.

What is the purpose of the 63 photo? jw cause there are very few 350's in america with full airmatic, sedans that is....

Like the above said, broken coil springs. And or the fact the tire profile on the 2wd's differs front to back may also be skewing the ride height as well. fronts 40 profile while rear is 35. Looks stupid as hell too me. I too have a 09 2wd and had to have same profile on all fours.

Road noise is solely based on tire brand, wear and straightness of wheels. Drive-line noise is a diff story.

Because I spend most of my time in the AMG section where all the cars have Airmatic unless people have swapped in coil overs. I forget that some E Classes came with springs instead.

I also explained why I put the pic in the post.
