Suspect coil on 2006 E500
Hi, I'm new to MB world despite having a 2006 E500 for about 5 years now. It's just passed the 165,000km mark and I suspect the coil has had it. Tried searching for a thread on this but surprisingly couldn't find one ?
Symptoms - it's an intermittent issue, but when idling, the engine runs seriously rough such that the whole car wobbles and the engine RPM rises and falls fairly quickly. Fine at higher RPM. but idling around 700 RPM which is a bit low. I initially thought it was expired gas as it had been sat for 2 months, but now a search suggests the coil or vacuum problem.
Someone else must have had this before - any idea how easy to locate a replacement coil and fit it ? I'm a competent enough mechanic to do oil and filter changes, but not much above that. Located in NZ.

If you can figure out which cylinder is misfiring, before throwing parts at it, try moving the coil to another cylinder. You can also move spark plugs and plug wires to really pin point the issue. Is the car possibly due for spark plugs anyways?

Thanks, appreciate the information. I think moving coils and plugs about is going outside my time and expertise limitations, it will have to go to a garage. But I can at least now speak to the garage owner in a much more informed manner. Cheers.
