TPMS: Any special mounting considerations?

I may be dealing with a flat, non-repairable tire, and I have the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Here are my Q's:

1. Is the TPMS sensor/mechanism located in the valve stem assembly? Or, is it a belt style system wrapped around the inside of the rim?

2. Are there any special considerations for re-mounting a tire on a rim with the TPMS? Meaning, do sensors have to be reset somehow with the car's computer?

I'm probably going to swap out all the tires at a non-dealer location. The Continental ContiTouring Contact CH95s are a P.O.S.!

They're far too soft. The car bounces all over the place. The ContiSportContact 2s on my last car were far superior.

TIA and cheers!

TPMS is integrated in the valve stem. On the inside of the rim there is a small box attached to the valve stem that relays the signals.

Read you manual. It will tell you how to preform a reset.

awiner,

Thanks for the info. I do know how to reset the TPMS via the display options. I was wondering if re-mounting a tire would affect the sensors in any way, since I didn't fully understand the location and structure of the TPMS.

I actually had the tire properly patched from the inside out. DARN SCREW!

I saw the TPMS sensor on the back of the valve stem when the tire was off the rim. Re-mounting the tires didn't adversely affect the sensors at all.

It was only $23 to patch, re-mount, and balance... I guess I'll be forced to stick with these tires a little longer... :p
